REVIEW: "Need For Speed" Needs Something More Than Just Fancy Supercars
2014.03.13
If your idea of a good time involves listening to engines humming and gears grinding, then this movie is for you.
Inspired by the popular 'Need for Speed' videogame series from Electronic Arts, the film stars Aaron Paul as a street racer down on his luck. A series of events leads him to getting framed by a wealthy business associate. After serving some time behind bars, he decides to exact his revenge by joining a secret, illegal race. With a massive bounty placed on his head, he needs to survive driving across the country without crashing and burning in the process.
Predictable storyline aside, the movie is clearly aimed towards diehard fans of supercars and illegal street racing. Highlights include replicas of the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, Koenigsegg Agera, Lamborghini Sesto Elemento, McLaren P1, Saleen S7, and even a rare GTA Spano which you can view in the gallery below:
You'll also get plenty of chances to check out the brand new 2015 Ford Mustang GT, as well as a heavily modified 2014 model with a wide-body kit.
Like most racing films, many of these cars will end up getting destroyed in the process. But you have to give props to the producers for going the extra mile to ensure that everything looks legit.
We also insist that viewers do not under any circumstances try to recreate the action of this movie, because that would be very irresponsible. And that's probably our biggest critique for this film, as both the heroes and villains come across as total jerks whenever they get behind the wheel.
So gear up motorheads, as Need For Speed will be out in cinemas March 13, 2014.
