This beast pictured below might not have been caught in the sea, but it is nonetheless still terrifying.

According to reports, the creator was pulled from the Raritan River in New Jersey river two years ago by a Doug Cutler who snagged it with a bow and arrow. It was only recently that a friend posted the above photo to Reddit, and it's been viewed over a million times since.

As for what it is exactly, Outdoor Magazine believes it's some type of huge sea lamprey (a parasite found in the northern Atlantic region). The rows of fangs allows to latch onto its prey before injecting it with digestive fluids that eat away at and kill the fish. And lampreys are apparently becoming increasingly common in fresh water areas, which should make you think twice about taking a dip during the summer holidays.
