An Olympic-Style Lightsaber Relay WILL Happen Before the San Diego Comic Con
The guys at Nerdist are teaming up with Lucasfilm, Octagon and Machinima to do the first ever "Lightsaber Run" before the San Diego Comic Con. It's probably the geekiest thing ever, but geek is the new cool anyway.
They've dubbed it "Course of the Force." and the Olympic-style lightsaber relay will take place on July 7 to 11 and cover the trek from Santa Monica to San Diego. Participants will pass off the official lightsaber to the next person at each quarter-mile marker and proceeds from the event will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Nerdist's Chris Hardwick and other hosts will be live-broadcasting the run each day directly onto their YouTube channel, while Machinima will create content around the event for its multi-channel video network.
Ultimately the goal is to raise money for charity and to get people hyped up about the upcoming Comic Con. Check out the video below fro the breakdown of the event:
