A research team from the University of Michigan claims that women who have higher levels of testosterone prefer pleasuring themselves over sex.

For the study, 105 men and 91 women were asked questions about their sex life as well as undergoing a cheek swab to determine testosterone levels. While the amount of hormones in a man's system has nothing to do with how often he thinks about masturbation or sex, women with high testosterone levels are less likely to want sex and preferred instead to masturbate.

Behavioral neuroendocrinologist at the University of Michigan Sari van Anders shares a little more explanation about this discovery (via Live Science):
"People have argued that sex research focuses too much on dysfunction and pharmaceutical treatment as opposed to questions like pleasure or relationships or stress," van Anders said. "There is a whole scope of factors that go unstudied."
But there is a downside to this, as women with high-testosterone levels also tend to stress out easily. Maybe that explains the need to "release" their tensions more often.
