A prediction for the future is that there will be more smartphones than there will be humans. And that's not so far ahead either because the prediction is that this will happen by end of this year.

By 2016, there could be 10 billion smartphones making the number of 1.4 mobile devices per capita. Cisco predicts that a solid chunk of this growth will come from Middle East and Africa followed by Asia Pacific both of which will have a growth rate of 104% and 84% respectively.

Cisco also predicts that by 2016, two thirds of the world's mobile data traffic will be from videos too.

But a bigger more pressing question would be, what would happen to all the older smartphones year on year? We'll be creating more waste!
