Kids Raised In The City More Likely Develop Food Allergies
The first study to map kids' food allergies has found that being a kid
in the city means you're more likely to grow up with food allergies.
Bummer.
According to CBS News, the study looked at 38,500 kids under the age of 18 and found that 9.8% of those raised in urban areas had food allergies compared to the 6.2% raised in rural communities. City kids were also twice as likely to have peanut and shellfish allergies then the rural kids.
It's not exactly clear why children in cities would be more prone to allergies, but the researchers theorize that it may have something to do with exposure to a certain environmental element. So if this sounds like your kid, you might want to do something about it or they might end up being allergic to everything.
