Imagine a world where you can no longer order a side of bacon with your sunny side up eggs? That future might be sooner than you think.

According to analysts down at the National Pig Association (it's a real organisation!) in UK, there is an imminent threat to the global pork supply:
New data shows the European Union pig herd is declining at a significant rate, and this is a trend that is being mirrored around the world. Pig farmers have been plunged into loss by high pig-feed costs, caused by the global failure of maize and soya harvests. All main European pig-producing countries report shrinking sow herds.
One reason might be due to recent drought in the US which seriously affected this year's maize harvest. Not only has it dramatically increased the wholesale price of cereal (pig grub), this contributes towards the escalating prices of the bacon-producing meat, which could result in a shortage of the cheap cuts. Now might be a good time to head to your nearest butcher to stock up.
