Does Avoiding Facebook Mean You're A Psychopath?
What do you mean you don't have a Facebook? Are you some sort of
psychopath or something? Shocking as this might seem, an increasing
number of employers and psychologists believe that people who aren't on
social networking sites are considered as 'suspicious.'
Their reasoning is that since the social network has become such a pervasive force in modern society, not having a profile is considered 'abnormal'.
Forbes.com reports that human resources departments across the country are becoming more wary of young job candidates who don't use the site. The common concern among bosses is that a lack of Facebook could mean the applicant's account could be so full of red flags that it had to be deleted.
Over at Slate.com, an advice columnist warned young people not to date anyone who isn't on Facebook, stating that 'If you’re of a certain age and you meet someone who you are about to go to bed with, and that person doesn’t have a Facebook page, you may be getting a false name. It could be some kind of red flag.'
But the most out there of all is an article over at German magazine Der Taggspiegel, which pointed out that both shooter James Holmes and Norwegian mass murder Anders Behring Breivik didn't have Facebook profiles. They noted that psychologist Christopher Moeller said that using Facebook is a sign of having a healthy social network, and several noted mass murderers have lacked any real friends. What do you think of this theory?
